Spinal Infections

Infections can occur in any part of the spine, including the soft cushions between your vertebrae (discs), the vertebrae, and in the soft tissues around your spinal cord/nerves. They can arise from bacteria circulating in your blood or directly from the skin. Treatment depends on severity of symptoms and location of the infection and can vary from nonoperative (e.g. antibiotics) to operative techniques to clear out the infection.
